Sonic Climax is an explosive combination of solid DJing skills, captivating tunes and a seasoned dynamic stage presence, pushing crowds to shift up gears and really lose themselves in dance. He's been named Master Music Journey Maker by friends, a description that resonates.
Growing up in a musical family in Germany, Bernd started playing drums and percussion as a kid. With the advent of electronic dance music he sold his drums to purchase turntables and a mixer in 1994.
Bernd soon found dance parties and festivals to be his natural habitat, where he could flourish and expand not just his, but also others' consciousness. Mostly active in the underground techno scene, he played countless gigs in Europe before moving to New Zealand in 2001 and subsequently shifted his focus to Psychedelic Trance.
Initially he focused his DJing on the more progressive side of Psy-trance, yet hugely enjoyed ecstatic dancing to Full-on.
In more recent years the Sonic Climax sound has clearly moved up to the 143–148 BPM Full-on range, and is colourful, mostly uplifting and highly energetic while still dropping down into more progressive territories to create contrast — and traction on the dance floor.
Bernd’s deep sense of rhythm combined with a keen analytical mind enable him to continually whip out lengthy, structured mixes, creating a seamless journey for the crowd. Being a highly passionate dancer and expressive on stage, Sonic Climax truly inspires the floor to join the mutual freedom of movement that is THE DANCE.
Sonic Climax is a regular feature at Lost In Paradise, Dimension and Trancevaders, and has headlined GWP Festival in New Caledonia while appearing at AUM Festival, Twisted Planet, Splore, Dreamweavers and Cyberculture. He has also been a resident DJ with Rural Remix Productions.
His influence in the Auckland psy-scene runs deep, spanning decades and the full spectrum of psychedelic dance culture.
